Stephen has over 30 years experience in local government and during the early years of his career, gained experience within the public and private energy sectors.

Stephen has extensive experience of managing and directing organisational change, performance management, industrial relations, delivering major service improvement at both operational and strategic levels.

Within local government, he has held deputy chief officer and chief officer roles (General Manager, Deputy Executive Director and Executive Director) and have directed major infrastructure projects, including the New Wear Bridge (£133m).

He has also served the Diocese of Durham in a number of varied roles, including:

Member of The Bishop's Council

Member of the Diocese Investment Committee

Member of the Diocese Board of Education

Director/Trustee of the Diocesan Board of Finance

Lay Chair of Easington Deanery

His interests include music and is organist and choirmaster at his local parish church.
