Welcome to the governance section of our website and hope you find the contents useful and informative.

As One Excellence is what is called a “Mixed MAT” there are, currently, three Church primary schools and one community school.

The MAT came into existence from 1^st July 2017 with St Mark’s Elm Tree C of E Primary School Stockton and Pentland Primary School Billingham and both schools have worked together since then. St Michael’s C of E Primary School and Evenwood C of E Primary School joined the Trust from the 1st December 2021.

There are three layers of governance within One Excellence Multi Academy Trust. The structure of the MAT is shown on the Trust website in the Governance section. As a mixed MAT there are five Members, three of whom are appointed by the Diocese of Durham and the other two are nominated by the Trust. There are nine Directors who are invited onto the Board as they have skills which are essential to ensure that the Trust provides a top-class education for all the children, ensures that the finances of the Trust are run properly, and the vision and ethos of the MAT is upheld. The Directors also sit on five different sub-committees, details of which can be found in the Academy Structure.

The third layer of governance is the Local Advisory Board, member are appointed/elected for each school within the Trust. There is a Scheme of Delegation which defines the areas of responsibility of all parties involved in the governance of the Trust. There is a document called the Terms of Reference which lays out what the LAB are required to do.

Members, Directors and people on the LAB are all volunteers who give of their time to contribute towards ensuring the children in our schools get the best education, prepare them for their to secondary education and enable them to be become good citizens.
