BackSheila qualified as a primary teacher and worked for over forty years in a range of schools across this sector. She taught in each of the primary year groups and acted as curriculum leader for maths and English before becoming a deputy head teacher in central Middlesborough. During five years in this role she completed a masters degree in education at Durham University. She then spent twelve years as a primary head teacher, eventually working as Executive Head across two schools as they initially formed a federation and finally combined on a single site. As a Local Leader in Education (LLE) she delivered leadership development and mentoring on behalf of the Local Authority. She retired in July 2018 but remain passionately committed to supporting primary education.
